THE WHAT AND WHY
I’d like to thank Dr Bill, of INGAYPORN.com for his understanding of the objectives of this site and of the special powers/limitations of the BLOG format, but, most importantly, for his extremely valuable feedback.
1. What exactly is this site, what is its purpose?
The creation of the DOTxXx top-level-domain is a QUESTION that stands before the Adult Industry — an important question. There is a lot at stake, and there is NO CLEAR CONCENSUS yet. This site is trying to offer a place of trust where the different opinions on the question can be presented in a context free of spin and free of bias. My hope is that the site will assist the industry in making this important decision — whether to support the DOTxXx TLD or oppose it.
2. Why is this site necessary?
The Web’s growth — both in its impact and in its reach — has FAR outpaced the establishment of systems, policies and procedures for COMMUNICATION and AGREEMENT between the various “stakeholder groups”. In this regard, the Web has been very much like the “Wild West” of the American 19th century. People were living and working there before all the structures of government or even norms of behavior for citizens had been established. In some cases, where a policy or a law existed, there was no clear mechanism for enforcement. Questions like “Who’s in charge here?” “Who’s land is this?” and “Who made you the boss of me?” plagued the early settlements for decades, until the fibers of civilization could be woven in wherever they were needed.
As bad as it may have been in the un-settled American West, at least they had guidelines to import from the East. Much of the law and systems of government could simply be copied and reproduced. This was not so difficult, because most of the Basic Objects over which and upon which law and government operate — like citizen, corporation, county, etc. — had not changed. On the Web, it’s all new — and in many cases, questions of authority, jurisdiction, ownership and Right of Opinion have not been established.
That is a terrifying fact, when you consider the assets and lives now bound up in and dependent on the Web.
The DOTxXx TLD is a strange beast. In some ways, it’s like a classification for the entities operating there — it could be used to create categories of rights, like we distinguish the rights of Citizens in the US from non-citizens. In other ways, it is like a territory – a place separate from other places, a place with a border around it — a place with different laws, perhaps.
As a country we are familiar with the problems of segregation and inequality. The DOTxXx TLD could potentially re-classify not only a category of speech but also an industry, with all the people working in it.
It could both violate the rights of individual American citizens
and the First Amendment.
THIS SITE IS NECESSARY, QUITE SIMPLY,
BECAUSE I — AN AMERICAN CITIZEN AND PORNOGRAPHER —
DON’T FEEL THIS IS BEING HANDLED RIGHT.
I WANT ALL THE PARTIES WHO HAVE AN AGENDA
OR A STAKE OR AN OPINION TO SHARE IT WITH ME,
BECAUSE THIS ISSUE AFFECTS ME, MY LIFE, MY LIVELIHOOD.
What can YOU do about it?
