DOTxXx is a proposed top-level domain.
It should be abundantly clear to everyone by now that the Adult Entertainment Industry is racing towards a cliff — just like Thelma & Louise, top down, ecstatic grimaces… “It’s just you and me, kid“, etc. etc. Emotions have been running high in the Adult Biz for months. Change is coming to this industry, whether we like it or not. Many pornographers are gravely concerned for the future of their livelihood, as old methods and standards are replaced by new. A number of pornographers feel angry that “outsiders” have been able to wrangle their way into a position of significant influence over their business.
To them I would say, “Why didn’t you think of it first?” Change is never merely “prospective”, but inevitable. In the face of change, there are but two postures. One of those remains a popular choice among Homo Sapiens, even though it has never succeeded, because it has the attractive benefit of permitting “bliss” to endure as long as possible. They call that one Denial.
For its preeminent concern with preserving the status quo, Denial must reject any plan, any idea, even any conversation, if it threatens The Way Things Are. This has a tendency to isolate practitioners of Denial. Thus, a self-inflicted, informal isolation escalates and becomes Actual Separateness. After a time of patience and understanding has been extended, the Community at Large has no choice but to acknowledge that the Separateness is real, and then to carry on with the Affairs of the Community.
The opening of the DOTxXx TLD is only one of several events likely to have an important, transformative effect on online porn within a year’s time. As those events come to pass and we’re able to appreciate the scope and direction of the changes, many an Old School Porn Peddler will fall by the wayside, power will shift, new empires will be built, and the whole world will realize how much the outgoing Porn Biz Regime could have done — to re-shape, re-structure, to evolve our business in response to environment — and how little we did.
The DOTxXx TLD is but one proposal, one vision for the restructuring of the Adult Internet, one way to answer the demands of the various stakeholder groups.
